CENTIPEDE HORROR (1984) (aka WU GONG ZHOU, CENTIPEDE CURSE, CENTIPEDE SORCERER, NG GUNG JAU) Dir: Keith Li This style of “sorcery-horror� was a big thing in Hong Kong in the 1980s. Prior to the boom of super exploitative CATIII films in the 90s - these types of obscure (and often endearingly absurd) films were Hong Kongs biggest export as far as the horror genre is concerned. Director Keith Lis CENTIPEDE HORROR is no exception. An often sought-after film by hardcore Asian horror fans, this little number is sure to be a hit amongst fans of similar material, such as SEEDING OF A GHOST and DEVIL FETUS (also available from wtfdvds)... CENTIPEDE HORROR is another 80s HK film that deals with sorcery and vendettas and puking things up - in this case centipedes. A girl goes on vacation to South East Asia. While there, a sorcerer notices her wearing a necklace that belonged to an old comrade of the sorcerer, whose misdeeds caused the decimation of their village. The sorcerer casts a spell which causes centipedes to attack the girl while shes out in the woods trying to take a leak. When she dies, her brother travels to the scene of the incident to look for answers to his sisters death... This extremely bizarre genre of film features some pretty sick scenes and some insanely ridiculous concepts and visuals - but thats the whole point, right? I have some friends that are BIG fans of these sorts of films, and on pure entertainment-value, they cant be beat. Not nearly as rough� as the later-to-come CATIII sickies (like the infamous THE UNTOLD STORY, LOVE TO KILL, DR. LAMB, and EBOLA SYNDROME films just to name a few - all also available from wtfdvds), CENTIPEDE HORROR and others like it are a bit of gory fun for those that are looking for rare, fun, Asian horror...
